The section of the resort that we stayed in had 2 private pools. This one was our favourite. Just on the other side of the wall was the poolside bar and all of the main pools so we had easy use of them all but the peace and quiet of our private pool. *sigh* I miss our pool! Here we still have knee deep snow.

Capture Theme #57
Posted in Photography on March 30, 2013 by paintedmeadowsCatch Up Day Five
Posted in Photography on March 29, 2013 by paintedmeadowsThere were all types of lizards around the resort but the iguanas were my favourite! This guy was so neat just hanging out on his rock and letting me take photos.
These peacocks were also wandering freely around the resort amongst a bunch of other birds, tropical fish, turtles and of course the coatis. Fun place for the kids.
Our room was on the third floor of our complex and from our balcony you could see this female iguana on the top of an old dead tree covered in vines. A few days later the male showed up with kisses. They hung out in the sun there for about 4 days and then he disappeared again. We named her Mex and him Rango. I miss my morning cup of coffee with Mex.
The tropical way of life takes a bit for us northerners to get used to. When we came back to our room after dinner one night this little one was on our wall. We called it Jeffrey and when we woke up in the morning it was gone. We have been calling it a gecko but I am not sure if that is right. It was about 3″ to 4″ long. Anyone got any ideas? So cute!!
Day Four Catch Up
Posted in Photography on March 28, 2013 by paintedmeadowsThis replica of the ruins at Chichen Itza was at our resort. Inside was the lounge bar. Very cool.
Exotic Theme #110
A coati! They are sooooooo adorable! There was a big group of adults and babies. Very friendly and sweet.
That is how I would describe these little cuties.
Sitting on the balcony of our room at the resort watching the sun come up. It was gorgeous!!
Day Three Catch Up
Posted in Photography on March 27, 2013 by paintedmeadowsThe wood beam or lintel in this picture is over 1000 years old. You can see it in the center under the thatching. I can’t remember what this building originally was. I think the beam was made of rubber wood.
This archway was one of only 5 entryways through the wall into Tulum. The wall ran along 3 sides of the city and the ocean runs along the 4th with a cliff face. The wall was 16ft high and 26ft thick. Very impressive.
The large building in the back is where they would sacrifice children on the solstices and equinoxes. We weren’t allowed to climb it though.
Now for something a bit lighter. This sand castle was on the beach at the resort. I think some kids worked very hard on it.
Day Two of Catch-up
Posted in Photography on March 26, 2013 by paintedmeadowsOne of the buildings overlooking the ocean at the ruins of Tulum in Mexico. We were told what all of the buildings were but I can’t remember.
This is some original art inside one of the buildings. We weren’t allowed to go inside and it was all roped off. I had to get down on my knees and use my 300mm lens with my 2x zoom to see what it even looked like. I was thrilled when I put it on my ipad later to look at it. There is even still some color left on it. I think a lot of people completely missed it. Such a shame.
A carved decoration on one of the buildings.
Another beautiful building at Tulum. In the grass in front you can see a low stone wall. It is surrounding a grave. The priests were buried in these large plots. One priest to a plot. I was quite surprised about the size of them. Just a little fun thing, if you look along the top of the building you will see some iguanas hanging out in the sun. They were everywhere. I just love them so there will be pictures in the future. lol
I’m Back With Multiple Themes!
Posted in Photography on March 25, 2013 by paintedmeadowsHi all. I am finally back. We had a fantastic holiday in Mexico but then I came back and got the worst flu I have ever had in my life!! I am finally on my feet again but I have a ton of catching up to do. I’m going to start out with all of my Mexico pictures. I am going to try to post 4 themes a day but I will put them in single post to keep down the emails showing up in your email box. So here we go!
This was inside the chapel at the resort we stayed at. Beautiful detailing but it was very dark inside so this was the best I could get.
Village Theme #334
These are the Mayan ruins at Tulum. They are so beautiful and it is the only village built on the ocean shoreline.
View Theme #333
This beach is at Tulum. I thought the view was gorgeous. The beach was closed down because sea turtles have chosen it as a nesting ground. How cool is that!
Cooking Theme #78
Every week the resort throws a beach party. There are dancers, a live band and they cook a HUGE paella. It was so yummy with lobster, mussels, huge shrimp and scallops. I felt bad for the poor chefs standing over the hot pan in that heat though.
